It's Saturday, it's the middle of June and football is back. Huddersfield sits 3pts and a couple of places clear of the drop with 9 games to go. Today brings Wigan to the John Smith's Stadium who sit 1pt and one place below the terriers, so we kick off with a genuine 6 pointer.
How will Danny Cowley line his team up today? With the option to use five subs per game we expect the Cowley brothers will be looking to pick a first 16 and deploy 5 "game changers" this afternoon. So here are our picks for the return of football.
Itching to go and in the nets for all the friendlies, and given some of Grabbaras comments post-concussion we fully expect Jonas in goal today.
Captain Fantastic and the first name on the team sheet for 4 years who else could it be?
Steady eddy himself fitted straight into his role from day one and has rarely put a foot wrong in blue and white. Elphick doesn't appear to be much closer to a return so Stearman definitely starts.
Shhhh! Don't tell Schindy but we have a bit of a crush on Toffs. A sure-fire starter and will be full of running this afternoon. Potentially one of those who will be substituted to allow Harry to go at it for as long as he can.
Simpson helped sure up the backline when he came in, ensures the squad keep their shape and the most likely to start at left-back with cover somewhat lacking in the squad. Outside chance of Duhaney getting a run out here but expect Simpson to start.
Who else but the midfield general, Danny and Nicky love Hoggy, as do we. After three months without an outlet for his fire, we predict a bunch of solid tackles a lot of screaming and probably a booking late in the first half. He will be replaced on the hour mark by Trev for some more running late in the game.
From the friendly highlights released this week, it seems Bacu packed up his shooting boots somewhere safe and dusted them off as soon as football got started, with 3 in 4 we might even have a cheeky tenner on him to score.
Expect Grant to be full of running and a no brainer to start this afternoon. Potentially to be switched out for Super Col or Kache mid-second half
With time to work on his fitness during the lockdown and get rid of any niggles, Willock was finding some form and linking beautifully with ESR before the shutdown. We'd pick him to start, but the Cowley's may prefer to bring him on later to add some pace.
How happy are we to see this kid in blue and white again? For us, he gets the nod to start above Pritchard but we fully expect the number 10 role to be a job share this afternoon.
We want Stevie but given Campbell's ability to wind up and wear down opposition defences we believe he will start, get into them, soften up Wigan's backline and then sneak Stevie on for the last half hour if the game to nick a winner or finish them off.
That’s what we reckon, but please leave your line-ups and replacements in the comments.
Till next time UTT
