League Cup: Stoke Preview

Huddersfield Town travel to the Potteries this evening to take on Stoke City in the League Cup, in what is definitely NOT an eagerly anticipated encounter. In this article we take a look at the the predicted line-ups, match odds and let you know who to boo, enjoy!

The Last Time They Met

Where? Bet365 Stadium

When? January 20th, 2018

Result? Stoke City 2 Huddersfield Town 0

Who Scored? Allen 53'. Diouf 69'

Competition? Premier League

Summary: Paul Lambert got his first win as Stoke manager in this match against David Wagner's Huddersfield Town. The Terriers travelled to the Potteries with containment in mind, and barely threatened their hosts offensively. A dreadful 15 minute spell saw Town go 2 goals down and in truth, they never looked like recovering.

The result looked to have injected new life into Stoke and drawn Town into the relegation mix, however it was Stoke, not Town that would be relegated at the end of the season.

Town's predicted XI

Who to boo?

Well, James Mclean is the obvious choice but it's not quite poppy season just yet, so perhaps hold out on booing Mclean as he's sure to get plenty of stick in the Autumn. Instead boo Ryan Shawcross, the ogre of a centre-back that almost broke Aaron Ramsey's leg clean off.

Stoke team news

Gary Rowett will have to do without Tom Ince for this game who is out with a hamstring injury. Expect Rowett to give a run-out to players like Bojan, Saido Berahino, Charlie Adam and Benik Afobe.

The last time Stoke faced a Premier League side in the League Cup whilst playing in the Championship, they lost 8-0 to Liverpool. I wouldn't expect that at all this evening. It will be a tight game, with a low-tempo and I see Stoke edging it by 1 goal.
